Ruler of Scoundrels: The Chronicles of a Cutpurse Book 2 by Carrie Summers

Master Thief, Myrrh, finds that it is much easier to take down a crime syndicate that to hold onto in. Her past enemies, the Slivers do not wish to fade away but put pressure on Myrrh’s new fledge crime organization, the Ghost syndicate in an attempt to regain their dominance of Rat Town.

To further complicate the situation, thieves are being found dead with no sign of what or who killed them. Without all the pieces of the puzzle, any misstep could be a fatal one and Myrrh must decide whether to trust a stranger with special skills to help save her people.

The author keeps us memorized with this dark, fantastic world of danger and intrigue. The story is fast paced and the pages fly as fast as a thrown dagger. Ms. Summers has a winner in this series.

For full transparency, I was given an Advance Reading Copy in return for an honest review.

Review of Iron House by John Hart

John Hart Delivers Again

This story follows Michael, a killer for a crime family who is trying to leave the violent life behind. When his mentor and crime boss dies on his death bed, the other criminals decide Michael and his lover must die as well. Michael has been shaped from the hard streets and a brutal orphanage called Iron House. The past catches up with the present as Michael fights for the only family he knows.

As with Mr. Hart’s other stories, nothing is as it seems. There is a ton of action and plenty of plot twists as bullets fly and bodies drop.

I highly recommend this book and found it keeping me awake late into the night as the pages kept demanding to be turned.

Mistress of Thieves: The Chronicles of a Cutpurse by Carrie Summers

Ms. Summers’ keyboard must be on fire.

She has created yet another new fascinating world for her readers. Meet Myrrh, a master thief who is left alone with a small orphan boy after her mentor and father figure is slain. Soon after, she is captured by a handsome rogue who was her mentor’s secret partner. Together they plan to bring down the corrupt government that oppresses the people.

Myrrh is tested and must prove her worth to the new organization, while unsure who she can trust or who will stab her in the back.
The story is a dark tale of suspense and daring. The writer keeps the reader spell bond, so that you keep reading to find out if Myrrh can find her way through the labyrinth of lies and deceit. I am looking forward to the next installment in this exciting chronicle.

I was given an Advance Reading Copy in return for an honest review.

Temple of Sorrow by Carrie Summers

Ms. Summers brings us something totally new.
Imagine entering into a video game without vertical glasses and gadgets attach. Set in the near future, you can now immerse yourself into a world where you smell, taste and interact with countless characters and wildlife. You decisions decide of you live or die; prosper or lose.

We follow Devon, a hardcore gamer who has been convinced to try the latest technology in a new game called Relic Online. As she enters the world and starts to learn how to gain points similar to a modern, Role Playing Game so that she can better deal with the open world and it’s inhabitants.  As with all these types of games she must complete tasks or quests to gain more power and points.

When the points started being displayed, I thought to myself, this is going to grow old fast, but I was wrong. The story is told is such a seamless way that you are actually rooting for Devon and celebrate the different milestones as she reaches them.

There is plenty of action for the RPG people and the fantasy lovers. Monsters and rivals stretch the patience of our main character and she has to show both skill and courage to overcome the forces against her. I am truly happy this is just the first of a series, because I cannot wait to return to Relic Online.

I was given an Advance Reading Copy in return for an honest review, but I would buy it in a NY second.

Review of Vigilante by Claude Bouchard

I loved it!

Fast paced murder/mystery set in Montreal, Canada. This book has everything. The story deals with Detective Dave McCall who is being tormented by a vigilante that has targeted criminals in the city. The issue is that the vigilante is not your average serial killer. This person is smart and leaves nothing behind that can track him down.

The hunt causes McCall to suspect everyone around him as the stakes are raised.  When the vigilante begins contacting both the police and the press with no digital track, he get the help of security expert Chris Barry, but Barry has his own problems.

This story races to a conclusion where nothing what it seems. It’s the ultimate who-dunnit. The fact that Mr. Bouchard is a Canadian makes it that much sweeter.
