The Hush by John Hart

I was eager to hear about this book which uses the same characters I fell in love with in Mr. Hart’s THE LAST CHILD. This story takes place ten years later after the emotional ride with Johnny Merrimon. To the world at large, Johnny is either a hero or a mixed up kid. All he wants is to be left alone. He spends most of his time in the Hush which is a wild chunk of wilderness and swamp.

But there is something dark in the swamp and there are those who would use that dark power for their own gain.

Mr. Hart blends the mystery/crime thriller with the supernatural in this story that reaches to the darkness of Africa. He proves that he can match Stephen King in the telling of a compelling, yet terrifying story. Although I had hoped for a story similar to his past titles, he did not disappoint.

Review of Urban Gothic by Stephen Coghlan

Welcome to the Magical Dreamscape

Alex LeGruerrier lives on the edges of society, unable to cope with the memories of his war-torn years and losing his comrades. A chance encounter pits him against three assailants who are attacking a lone female who is seriously injured. Taking responsibility and interest for the first time since his return gives him purpose.

The woman, Veleda, leads him into the dimension of the dreamscape, a place where all dreams and nightmares are alive and thriving. He finds himself as part of a rebellion to a self-appointed despot who hopes to rule the dreamscape and destroy the creators – namely the humans who dream.

Alex must use all his skills as a healer and a warrior while learning the magic of this fantastical world to help Veleda and her people.

The author has set a masterful tale of wonder, danger and the impossible in this run away story. His world building creates an environment similar to the Rabbit’s Hole that Alice might have fallen down. There is enough action and suspense to keep everyone on edge and the band must fight impossible odds.

Highly recommended.

Review of Second Star by J. M. Sullivan

New adventure for today’s generation

Visit Neverland and all your childhood heroes and villains for a retelling of the classic tale of joys of eternal youth. Peter flies again in this wonderful tale of adventure and daring escapades. Pitted against the deadly Hook, he must keep his lost boys safe while helping Wendy and her crew escape the evil presence hidden within Neverland.

Set in the far future, Peter has sabotaged Hook’s ship to stop his evil plans. Stranded on a strange planet, that poses as much beauty as it does danger, Peter must convince Wendy Darling who has been tasked with rescuing Hook and his crew that the good Captain is up to no good.

Ms. Sullivan has returned after her much acclaimed, Alice with another tremendous adventure that mirrors some of our favorite childhood tales. Grab your sword and get ready for a swashbuckling read that will keep the pages flying.

Empress of Rogues by Carrie Summers

Miss Summers has another hit on her hands!

The fourth installment of the Chronicles of a Cutpurse has everyone hunting for Myrrh’s head. They have arrested Glint and lies dying in a public cage waiting for the death sentence by the city’s new leaders. To escape the hunt and gather allies, Myrrh follows the smuggler’s path only to meet a mysterious, lethal woman with strange and terrifying powers.

Before she can move to save Glint, she must free her own people from the city’s prison. She needs the skills of the best thieves in Ostgard to have a chance to win Glint’s freedom.

This a run-away carriage, with more action, sword-work, and magic than any fantasy fan can hope for.
