The Runner by Stephen Leather

Sally Page is a ‘footie’, which is an entry level position in England’s MI5, who maintains buildings and cover stories for ‘real’ spies. It’s an important job, but not very exciting; until Sally’s co-workers are slaughtered by a hit squad while she’s on a coffee run. Now, armed men are chasing Sally, and she has no understanding why. With someone in her own agency helping the killers, she has no one to trust. With the body count rising, she’s running for her life.

This is my first introduction to Stephen Leather, but it will not be my last. A quick search reveals that Leather is one of Europe’s leading thriller writers, and there is no mistaking why. I found myself totally pulled into this story and could not look away. I hope Sally will show up in future stories because she shows so much promise.

If you like fast-paced stories that race full throttle, you’ll love both the story and the author. I will definitely be searching for more from this incredible author.

Return to the Reich by Eric Lichtblau

This the true story of Freddy Mayer, a Germany born Jew, who fled his home country just before the Nazi’s began rounding up the Jewish people. His family made their way to the United States and settled in Brooklyn.  As America entered the war, Freddy hoped to help his new country defeat the fascists and enlisted. He ended up becoming a commando spy for the newly formed OSS. Pleading for a mission, they teamed Freddy up with another Jewish radio operator and a turned Nazi officer. They were dropped in Austria, 200 miles behind enemy lines. This is their story.

This is a magnificent story of an unsung hero. It reads like a modern day thriller, dripping with danger and suspense. I am so happy I found this gem.

We return to the third installment of the Wanderland Chronicles which follows but modernizes and enhances the story of Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. The third book was needed to bring closure to the story. Sullivan keeps the adrenaline pumping in this latest installment to the point you might want to have a bottle of oxygen at the ready. It’s Alice confronting her sister in the battle to end all battles.

As with all of Sullivan’s stories, this one follows the original fable to a tee, but brings it forward to modern times. Very exciting! Very entertaining!

The Venetian Betrayal (Cotton Malone #3) by Steve Berry

Cotton is pulled into another international conspiracy that has him pitted against an ambitious dictator who plans on taking over the Middle East with germ warfare. He must follow the clues left behind by Alexander the Great to find a cure, but there are so many double and triple agents in the mix, that he cannot trust anyone.

Another satisfying thriller by Berry who makes it looks so effortless. Grab your copy and hold on.

Lyrics and Curses by Candace Robinson

I admit that when I first heard the title to this book, I wasn’t sure what I was going to get. I was pleasantly surprised.

Lark and Auden came together over their love for music and song lyrics. Both are full of self doubt due to their family issues, but when two strangers appear, they are shoved together into a walking nightmare. They have been cursed and must find a cure or they will cease to exist. Unable to be heard or seen by those around them, they only have each other to rely on.

The suspense and tension never stops in this spooky story. It is a real page turner as you cheer on the couple while trying to understand what is happening and why. I highly recommend this story.
