The 2018 Guide to Manuscript Publishers

This is one great resource for writers. This lists all the publishers that accept submissions without representation. It saves so much time as it allows the author to skim the information on what the publisher is looking for. At a glance, you can tell if the publisher is interested in fiction, non-fiction, short story or poetry.

Using this 2017 issue, I was able to find my current publisher, Crave Press and now have two thriller novels being released this year. Even Google could not give a better listing of publishers accepting non-represented authors.

Further by following Authors Publishing Magazine, you get up to date information on which publishers are currently accepting which type of writing. The 2018 Guide to Manuscript Publishers has all the information at your finger tips so that you can plan your submissions well in advance in a strategic manner.

GunZ Book 2 in the Dark Elf War by William Stacey

Ultimate Fantasy Thriller! Part 2

This is Stacey’s latest novel and it is the Conclusion??? of the Dark Elf War. It follows the first in the series, Starlight (which I loved – see earlier review). I am glad that I was able to read the two books close together as I am sure I would have had to re-read the first after such a long interval between the two parts. This is the issue I have with most series. I prefer to read them once completed so I can read them all together. I must be f***ing weird or something.

The second one brings back a number of our favorite characters but also a new bunch that we instantly fall in love with.

The Dark Elves use the gateway from their planet to ours to conquer and cull humankind. As the armies of the dark elves march across the interior of British Columbia slaughtering any who stand in the way, the rest of the world tries to communicate with this alien race in a peaceful way. Those on the ground know better. When a rebel Dark Elf and a warrior Dwarf bring news of the real threat, it is up to a small band of heroes to take the fight to the enemy against the orders of their leaders.

This story is non-stop action and tension and leaves the reader panting and exhausted at times – In a GOOD WAY! Stacey uses a promise between warriors to keep the story open for more installments and I cannot wait!

Cursed: The Hunter Inside by Casey M. Millette

How many sixteen year old authors can hit a breakthrough fantasy novel through the roof.  Now ask, how many have a successful series in hand. Not too many! But Ms. Millette has done just that. She has created a new world for adventurers to explore and rich characters to love and hate. There’s magic and monsters galore.

Cursed: The Hunter Inside has everything! Betray, romance, high adventure and even talking trees.

This is a young author to watch!

Starlight by William Stacey

Ultimate Fantasy Thriller!

This was an earlier Stacey novel that I hadn’t gotten to and shame on me. It was fun romp in the wilds of British Columbia. As with all good tales, the results of a government research screw up causes all kinds of trouble.

A gateway to another dimension has allowed creatures of myth to enter Earth in a scouting mission to prepare for all out war. It also has allowed Mana into our dimension awaking strange new powers in a few special people.  Dark Elves, fire breathing Hell Hounds and monstrous Basilisk vs the best U.S./Canadian Special Forces sets the stage for one hell of a firefight.

Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King

Does the Master of All Things Strange and Scary have a crystal ball? This book comes out on the heels of the #ME TOO movement and speaks volumes of the way women are treated in today’s society. During this fast paced story, we meet the worst and the best of mankind as they struggle to deal with a phenomenon that has the world’s female population falling into a dead sleep.

As always, King creates characters that you both love and hate with a slash of the weird to keep things spiced up and hopping.
Without giving away the ending, I was left with the feeling that nothing was learnt and that with time, the abuse would continue.

I would definitely recommend the story to any of King’s fans and to new ones as well.  Not his best, in my opinion, but it is right up there. As an author, I would have loved the opportunity that Owen had to learn from the Master story-teller.
