Paradise Lot – A GoneGod World boxset by R. E. Vance

My First Urban Fantasy Thriller.

When I was asked to give this box set a read and a review I admit to have reservations. I’ve never jumped an Urban Fantasy before, but I was quickly and pleasantly surprised. The stories within are interesting, funny, and full of action.

Image for a moment, that all the Gods around the world and all through history became bored with their roles and decided to move on from their plane of existence. Of course, all their worshipers would be lost. Then to make things real interesting, all the demigods, angels, trolls, fairies and a hundred “Others” were left behind to coexist with mankind.

Mr. Lance has brought this whole hoard of wild characters together in a collage of mythical proportions. Join their stories to try to find their place on earth with the help of Jean-Luc, a former soldier who lost his beloved wife and is trying to find forgiveness for his sins. There is a lot of human and inhuman behavior on display and the stories poke fun our own efforts to fit in.

“BTW...Could you hear the angels singing on high while you read this review?”

Storm Watch

Review of Rise of the Storm by Carrie Summers

This is the second installment to The Broken Lands Series. It continues the story of Savra a young woman with strange and unfathomable powers and Emperor Kostan. Both are trying to help their troubled, crumbling world through conflicting strategies all the while under a yoke of a terrifying prophecy.

Once again, Ms. Summers sweeps us into a world of traitors, crazed monsters and powerful magics that in a fight for the foundations of a world. Massive armies and last minute escapes keep the pages flying in this exciting sequel to The Heart of the Empire.

I am personally anxious to get my hands on the last of the trilogy as the story sets itself up for a battle royale of epic proportions.  One Hell of a ride.

Review of Apricots and Wolfsbane by K.M. Pohlkamp

Now for something totally different. In a GREAT WAY.

This tale of suspense and murder tells the story of a 16th century assassin who raises herself from nothing to an equal with the ruling class utilizing the weapon of poison. Follow her career; both her successes and triumphs in this strangely hypnotic take of sin and obsession. Ms. Pohlkamp will have you cheering on this delicious femme fatale as she murders her way up the chains of society to reach the pinnacle of her profession.

This is one of those stories readers will not want to end. The originality and suspense moves it along so that the pages seem to turn on their own.

The world building is exquisite with attention to detail that sweeps the reader into the life and times of Tudor England. It’s like stepping into a time machine. Just don’t sample the fruit.

I’ll be anxious for K.M. Pohlkamp return.

Review of The Last Child by John Hart

Review of The Last Child by John Hart

This story was recommended to me by my editor, Mica Scotti Kole. It is a suspense triller that deals with a twin who has been abducted and her brother who has not given up finding her and the police officer who cannot let go of the unsolved case. Mr. Hart has put together an intricate jigsaw puzzle that has numerous unrelated pieces that do not truly come together in the manner that the reader expects. Nothing is what it seems until the final pages.
The story is brilliantly told and I will be searching out other titles by this author. He draws the reader in and makes the characters worthy of our attention and compassion. Highly recommended for those who like their stories realistic and fast paced.
Warning: this novel deals with adult themes and can be disturbing to some readers
