All the Hidden Pieces by Jillian Thomadsen

Detective Roberta Hobbs and her partner are assigned to the disappearance of an entire family. Greta, the mother who has disappeared has done everything to protect her family. Both women have secrets that threaten to overwhelm them. The story is told through the eyes of both women but from different times until they collide in the present.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. The characters were enduring and realistic. As fear for Greta and her family mounts, the reader will find themselves racing through the pages to find out what has happened. I look forward to more from this author.

Book Review: Shadowed by Despair by Candace Robinson #3 Laith Novel

This is the third Laith story. We revisit the savage world and meet up with two familiar characters; Perin, who returns from the dead as a flesh eater and Tavarra, who was once a werewolf but whose curse has been lifted. In desperation to rid himself of the curse, Perin travels to the Stone of Desire and the entity within the Stone sends him on a quest for a lavender liquid on the other side of the sea.

He is reunited with Tavarra and a new ally, a Jovkin, named Vaden. They travel across the sea and must cross a land with strange creatures and dangers to find the liquid required. They must also learn to trust each other.

The story is a fast moving fantasy with danger lurking behind every corner. The author presents a surprise ending that pulls the trilogy into a satisfied conclusion. Very well worth the read.

Fall of Giants by Ken Follett Book #1 of the Century Trilogy

The Master storyteller’s epic series follows five families across the last century. The story begins prior to the First World War from the perspectives of both the poor and aristocratic families in England, America, Germany and Russia. The story is highly researches as can be expected by Mr. Follett, yet rather than dry history, he brings a human element to the story. We see the dreams, losses and accomplishments of all the characters.

The story of World War 1, the fall of Imperial Russia and the Soviet Revolution is back dropped to the rise of women and lower class rights and the weakening of the aristocrats. I look forward to the next edition to this exciting trilogy.

Highly Recommended.

The Shade King by William Stacey The Awakening World: Book 2

Better than the first one!

Fugitives of the Commonwealth, Angie the Source Mage, Tec the Jaguar Knight and the Seagrave family of werewolves flee to the lands of their former enemies, the Nortenos. With tons of hard hitting military and supernatural action the band of heroes must deal with new monsters to ward off the destruction of the world by an ancient cult who serve an evil that wants to destroy all life on Earth.

Stacey keeps the action moving at a furious speed that will have you reading long into the night. I can’t wait for the final chapter in this trilogy.

The 14th Colony by Steve Berry

The U. S. government calls Cotton Malone back out of retirement to perform a recon on a Soviet ex-KGB agent in Siberia. As he approaches the dacha, they shoot his plane down with a surface-to-air missile. Thus starts a race against time to avoid a nuclear holocaust on American soil. The key is an event that goes back 200 years and Cotton and his team need to figure out the clues to this mystery or all is lost.

Berry brings another wild ride while adding real historical facts that might boggle the mind. I’m hooked on Cotton Malone.
