Any Means Necessary (Luke Stone #1) by Jack Mars

Adrenaline Rush!

Luke Stone a semi-former FBI specialist is called in when Jihadists steal nuclear waste from a New York Hospital with the intent of building a dirty bomb on U. S. soil. This is a mad rush against the clock with more twists and turns any roller coaster. But what is the final target and who is funding this attack?

This one of the fastest thrillers I have read in a while and I will be looking at all the others in this exciting series. Yeah! A new author to follow!

Ocean Prey (Lucas Davenport #31) by John Sandford

When the killing of three Coast Guard officers by drug smugglers finds no suspects, U.S. Marshal Lucas Davenport is called in to get results. Using hard edged police tactics, he and his team quickly zero in on the drug runners, but now they must prove it. From the beaches of Florida to hard streets of New York, this realistic chase is complex and mesmerizing.

With more action, shooting and suspense to equal a dozen books, the author creates a memorable story. This is the 31st book in the series and I plan on searching out others.

As an author, I could appreciate the author’s comments concerning mistakes found in manuscripts and the work that goes into bringing together a novel.

A Gambling Man by David Baldacci

Archer is heading to California and a possible job as a Private Eye. In Reno, he wins big and finds himself behind the wheel of an exotic car and woman. Together they head west to find their fortune. Archer finds things are as dirty in California as anywhere in the world, but that makes good business for a Private Detective, but not everything is as it seems. With multiple bodies and as many suspects, this hard-hitting yet honest Gumshoe will have to watching in all directions if he hopes to survive.

This is the second in the Archer series and it drops the reader back into the dark 1950s and what feels like a Mickey Spillane story with fast cars, faster women, and gunfire galore. A great treat.

Orphan X by Gregg Hurwitz

I had been hearing of this series, so thought it was time to dive in. It started tamely enough, shadowing after the video game, Hitman, which has children raised to become killers. But that is where this story left the other 2-dimensional illusion and became a full-throttle run away.

Evan Smoak is the NoWhereMan, a talented operative who helps those who have nowhere else to turn. But when one good turn becomes a complicated trap, he must use all his skills to find out who and why people around him are dying. This is the first book in a series, and I will definitely be chasing after the others.

Tons of suspense, action and high-tech weaponry for the hardcore thriller addicts.

Copper River (Cork O'Connor #6) by William Kent Krueger

Cork O’Conner is hiding out with a bullet injury while hitmen hunt for him. With a Chicago mobster believing Cork had killed his son, Cork must wait until the police investigation clears him and finds the real killer. But danger finds Cork, even in the backwoods of Michigan’s upper Peninsula.

His nephew and friends see a body in the river and when a girl’s body if found in Lake Michigan, shadowy figures are hunting down the young teens. Cork and his protector, Dina, must protect the children while revealing what these men are after.

Another fast-past, beautifully written thriller. It follows the story first told in Mercy Falls. It is practically a sequel, but only to give the other story time to resolve itself. This story basically stands by itself. Krueger still delivers a top-notch suspense thriller.
