The Final Twist by Jeffery Deaver (Colter Shaw #3)

In the past stories of Shaw, we found that his father, a survivalist, had been killed by a mysteriously group. In Final Twist, we see the full story evolve as Colter teams up with his older brother, Russell to take on a Billionaire who has plans on taking over the political landscape of California by any means necessary.

Using the skills taught by his father and his own ‘Award’ business, Colter fights enemies on all sides as they hunt for a document that will change American politics forever.

With more twists and turns then a trip through the streets of San Francisco, this story is exciting, full of suspense with all the action an armchair adrenaline junkie could dream about.

Namesake by Adrienne Young (Fable #2)

In the previous novel, Fable, the young gem mage, and diver, has found a home on the Marigold with its helmsman, Wes and the crew. We left her as a rival takes her to an unknown fate.

In the sequel. Fable enters a larger game against her grandmother, a powerful gem trader beyond the Nameless Sea. She must also find a rare gemstone her mother had found and hidden from the greed within the kingdom. She must pit her wits against multiple characters, all who will use her as a setting stone to power and riches. One slip and she’ll find a resting spot at the bottom of the sea.

A frolicking delightful tale of the sea and the deadly forces both above and below the surface. A very satisfying ending to this tale.

The Damage by Caitlin Wahrer

When a man is brutally raped and beaten, his family is uncertain how they can help. Catching the suspect is not the issue. It is the long, tedious, and uncertain justice system as well as the psychological damage both to the victim and his family members as they attempt to put their lives back together.

This is a story of love, family, respect, betrayal, revenge and moving forward after trauma. The story is told in both the present where a dark secret is being exposed, as well as in the past when the incidents take place.

This is a perfect fit for psychological thriller lovers that pray for that plot twist in the end. There are more than a few in this story.

Thanks to NetGalley, the Author and Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read and review this story.

The Push by Ashley Audrain

Are there mothers who have no interest in being mothers. Are there children who are unlovable, even from a mother’s love? This story will have you questioning a mother’s sanity and a child’s wickedness, and nothing is truly clear until the last page.

The first child should be a joy, yet there is a tension between the babe and its mother. As the child grows, there are uncomfortable coincident, both at home and at school, but is it a hateful child or a woman on the edge.

This story is a slow burn, but like fire, you are unable to look away—until—the—last—page.

Fable by Adrienne Young

Abandoned by her father to a harsh island to fend for herself after the death of her mother, Fable must scrimp, scheme, and fight her way for survival and a way off the island. Determined to find her place back to her father’s side, she enlists the help of a reluctant trader and his crew, but who to trust is only one of the dangers, now that she has escaped the island.

This is a fresh look at YA fantasy. It has a ring of a pirate story and is as intriguing as it is exciting. Now I must wait until the library releases the sequel to see how our young heroine fairs against the mangy varmints that stand against her and her friends.
